Clarks

Overview
Clarks is the international footwear brand. We were asked to photograph its shoes and create social media content for its channels.
The challenge
Shoes are small, detailed objects, and shoppers judge them on materials and finish they cannot touch through a screen. The images needed to show shape, texture and colour accurately, while the social content had to feel more relaxed and personal than a catalogue.
Our approach
For the product work we lit each shoe with large, soft sources and a crisp edge light, which brings out the grain of leather and the nap of suede without harsh glare. Every style was shot from the angles shoppers expect: side profile, three-quarter, top, sole and a close detail of the stitching. We styled each pair carefully, lacing and shaping the shoes so they sit as they would on the foot. For social media we moved to styled flat lays and textured surfaces, with props that suggest everyday life, framed in square and vertical formats. Colour was checked against the real shoes during retouching, so the colour on screen matches the shoe in hand.
